A Visit to the Small Acres Homestead

A Visit to the Small Acres Homestead

If you do not already know this about me, I am a huge Homesteading fangirl. It has been a dream of mine since I was a little girl to live off of the land, working along with the earth.

As of now, I am researching how to take on this lifestyle in my future! I devour books, blogs, youtube videos, Instagram accounts, and etc! So, when my family gets the chance to go visit the Small Acres Homestead, we eagerly jump to the occasion!

I am incredibly fortunate that my Aunt Dani & Uncle Joe also had the call to Homestead! Nothing is better than hands-on experience and these guys are so sweet as to let us come visit & help out on their homestead! They built & have been homesteading at The Small Acres Homestead since 2014. Watching their growth and homestead journey has been really inspiring. I have witnessed their farm growing from baby chicks in a brooder to the wonderful little farm it is today! Not only is it inspiring, but it also makes my heart so happy to be able to experience a taste of the life I am working towards. Getting to spend time with my family members while learning all about their experiences has been remarkable & I am so thankful for the opportunity!

My grandparents also live on the Small Acres Homestead in their own new home! My Nana was thrilled to show the little dragons how to collect eggs from the chicken coop and how to feed them snacks from the porch. One of the eggs was accidentally cracked a little bit in the process of being collected, but Nana & Nonny saved the day by teaching the kids how to cook scrambled eggs in the kitchen!

Meanwhile, I was beside myself being followed around by a flock of chickens & imitating their little noises back at them.

Getting a Goat selfie was a #1 priority for the day

One of the things I was most excited about on our visit to the homestead was getting to meet the baby goats & new baby ducklings!! The goats were a little unsure about the dragons since they are smaller human beings and a little more unpredictable, but they are very pleasant girls!

The newest addition to Small Acres Homestead!

I honestly can’t tell you which I am more excited about for my own homestead, goats or chickens/ducks! Being able to spend time with baby goats, ducklings, AND chickens just made my day.

When I was a little girl, I was a MASSIVE horse nerd. (Alright, let’s be real, Once a horse nerd, always a horse nerd!) I wanted nothing in the world more than to have my own horse. Thankfully, My Dad would take me to learn how to care for and ride my Grandma Star’s Egyptian Arabians as a kid pretty often. These horses were as spunky as they were gorgeous! Now that I have my own little girl, I love seeing her get just as excited about horses. My heart melts so much! My little dragon was so brave while interacting with this big guy above, cautious at first of course, but she was all smiles getting to touch his sweet, velvety nose.

I hope to be visiting again very soon to teach my kiddos how to weed a garden and to soak up some country sunshine (& hopefully get more goat time!). As I wait for my own homestead dreams to come to fruition, this is such a heavenly place to visit. Thank goodness for Family & Farm!
