May 11th, 2019 I had the chance along with a few of the Thrive Mama Collective members, to participate in the Nursing & Nourishing pop-up event hosted by The Little Ark Boutique in Nichols Hills. We set up a Thrive Mama table with products we carry in our retails space that are beneficial for breastfeeding, as well as pamphlets with info about the wonderful postpartum and breastfeeding resources we provide to our community!
Thrive Mama’s Jessica Halley, IBCLC (International Board Certified Lactation Consultant), attended the event in order to offer support and advise breastfeeding moms who came by the pop-up event. I was able to provide info on local resources for prenatal & postpartum services as a doula along with another doula Thrive Mama member, Deanna.
I had the chance to meet other vendors as well and learn more about their services and products! Melany Boughman of More Milk Cookies was set up next to us, which was great because I was able to get samples of those delicious cookies! More Milk Cookies support breastfeeding because they fuel mommas with nutrients. Also, these cookies do not have fenugreek in them, if that is something you might have concerns with. These cookies are available at Thrive Mama if you want to give them a try!
Getting to chat with Chef Simone of Gold Plated was wonderful! Gold Plated provides in house chef services to the Oklahoma City area. This service would be amazing as a new momma when you would much rather sleep than cook a gourmet meal for yourself or your family. Gold Plated brought a chia pudding along for attendees to try and it was DELICIOUS! I could eat that pudding every morning for sure!
Another wonderful thing about Gold Plated is she is uniting local farmers in Oklahoma to create an event called the ‘Curator Series’. She gets ingredients from each farm and highlights them in the dishes for the event! If local, organic, fresh food is something you are interested in, you should check out one of these Curator Series events soon!
The business who hosted the event, The Little Ark, was full of adorably sweet infant and early childhood items. It was enjoyable just getting to walk around and check out everything they have to offer in between talking with attendees at the Thrive Mama table.
I don’t care how many baby clothes I have seen, a super sweet romper or fluffy pink tutu will always make me squeal from cuteness! It should come as no surprise that as a birth worker and momma, that I ADORE baby stuff!
Events like the Nursing and Nourishing pop up are wonderful for our community, especially our community’s families. Breastfeeding can have its challenges and providing women a chance to meet and speak with supportive and passionate lactation consultants like Jessica Halley is invaluable. Postpartum Doulas like myself assist in connecting our clients and women in our community to resources like Jessica Halley, Farah Mayberry-Antoine, Milk Moms Group, Le Leche League meetups, and more.

Jenni Jenkins – Sekine is an Oklahoma Bereavement, Birth, & Postpartum Doula and Child Birth Educator who serves her Central Oklahoma community. She is also a midwifery assistant with Holistic Birthing Services and began her journey as a student midwife with the Midwives College of Utah in 2022.
Jenni is also the creator & facilitator of the Kaleidoscope OKC LGBTQ Family Support Group & the Nurture Oklahoma Live Interview Series.
